Elasticity, Modulus of -
The ratio of the limit stress to the unit strain of a material in tension, expressed in Ibs/sq.in. Also called Young's Modulus.
Elliptical Lock -
A thread lock created by deforming a portion of an internally threaded fastener into an elliptical shape.
A change in length of a material as a result of tensile loading. Used as an indication of a material's ductility and specified as a percent of increase in length at fracture.
Embrittlement, Hydrogen -
A brittle condition caused by the absorption of hydrogen into a metal. Sometimes occurs during plating, cleaning, or heat treating operations.
End Load -
The axial force applied to a driving tool by the operator, usually required in applying torque to a recessed fastener.
Engagement, Thread -
The axial length over which mating complete threads are in contact.
Inmetallography, the process of revealing structural details by the preferential attack of reagents on the metallic surface of a specimen.
An instrument for measuring changes caused by stress in the linear dimensions of a body.
To shape material by forcing it through a die orifice having the desired cross-section outline. Infasteners, this process is used frequently in heading, to reduce diameters.
