The resistance of material to plastic deformation, usually by indentation. Infastener manufacture, the micro hardness of fasteners and materials is tested by the use of specific indenters under controlled pressures. The indentation is measured microscopically and related to an appropriate chart of fixed values. The following systems are used:
The enlarged shape formed on one end of a fastener to provide a bearing surface. threaded systems, the head usually embodies a wrenching feature.
Rigidly built machine, usually horizontal, used for gathering or upsetting material. Commonly used for forming screw, rivet and bolt heads.
Heat Treatment -
A process involving heating and cooling of a solid metal or alloy to obtain desired conditions or properties.
A spiral; a curve traced on a cylinder by the rotation of a point crossing its right sections at a constant oblique angle.
Helix Angle -
See Lead Angle
A threaded pin/collar system designed for consistent preload through torque-control. During installation, the wrenching portion of the collar breaks off at a predetermined torque to leave a tamper-proof assembly. The Hi-Tigue is designed for interference-fit applications.
HiShear Rivet/Tapered HiShear® -
A pin/collar system incorporating a unique annular groove, at the end of the pin opposite the head, into which a malleable collar is swaged.
